The Parish Council is a consultee in South Hams District Council Planning Applications, but it does not make final decisions about applications. These decisions are made by District Councillors.

When responding to Planning applications (or listed building consent) Parish Councils have three options: they can make no comment, support an application or object to an application. If an application is supported there is no need to give reasons, but if there are objections to an application it is important that the objections are in planning terms and that they are clearly identified. The CPRE/NALC document gives a comprehensive guide to planning.

On occasion the planning committee makes visits to sites of planning applications. These site visits are open to the public, who may observe but not speak, and are advertised on this website.

Agendas and minutes are on the Site Visits and meetings page. Notice of upcoming meetings is also on the news page.  The decisions of the planning committee are ratified at the next full council meeting.

Here is the CPRE/NALC document explaining the planning system.
